Yvette Heatley – North West SQA Project Lead
I would like to introduce myself as I undertake my role as North West Project Lead for the Student Quality Ambassador (SQA) Project.
Since qualifying as an Adult Nurse from the University of Chester in 2010, I have enjoyed a varied and diverse career including acute medicine and Accident and Emergency. After achieving a BSc (Hons) in Palliative Care from the University of Bolton, I went into specialist palliative care nursing which then led to an educational role within palliative care at the End of Life Partnership.
From here, my passion for education and change management was born!
I went onto to work as a Practice Education Facilitator at Mid Cheshire Hospital Foundation Trust in Crewe which enabled me to support students from a range pre-registration, academic programmes including nursing, midwifery and Allied Health Professions.
My initial aim is to increase recruitment levels, particularly from under-represented groups including:
- Students from BAME backgrounds
- Men in nursing
- Under-represented professions – e.g. Nurse Associates, Physician Associates, Podiatry and Radiography.
I would welcome the opportunity to reach out to healthcare students in the North West, to discuss the scope of the SQA role, how they can implement change for the benefit of service provision and be leaders of the future.
